Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) & Ty Dolla $ign, collectively known as ¥$ (Ye n' Dolla), began making joint music in 2014, when they were working on Ye’s seventh studio album The Life Of Pablo. Following the album’s release, Ty Dolla $ign became one of Ye’s most frequent collaborators, appearing on every album he's made since. The two maintained a strong relationship; during 2023, Ty was one of the select few Ye invited to record music with him in Tokyo, Japan and later in Italy. During the recording sessions for Ye's eleventh studio album, they each decided to set aside some of their music to create their first collaborative album, Vultures. The album was set to roll out in three volumes: Vultures 1 on February 9th, 2024 (released the day after instead), Vultures 2 on March 8th, and the final volume on April 5th. However, the release of Vultures 2 was heavily delayed, with it first being postponed to May 3rd and finally being released on August 3rd. Upon release, Vultures 2 received overall negative opinions from fans & critics, with some criticizing its bad mixing, usage of AI, and unfinished quality, which prompted ¥$ to make changes to the album over time. After the release of Vultures 2, the duo would continue to tease a third volume through 2024 and into early 2025. However, after Ty's label made him put out a statement denouncing hate speech in response to comments made by Ye on Twitter, the project appears to have been shelved, as Ye and Ty Dolla $ign shifted their focus to Bully and Tycoon respectively.
