HaMechashefot (The Witches) was an Israeli all women influential rock band. Inbal Perlmuter - Vocals, Guitar, Lyrics and Melody. Ifat Netz - Bass and Vocals. Yael Cohen - Drums and Vocals. The band started performing at clubs in the end of 1992, their success began at the Ein Gav concert in 1993. The band appeared and performed a sensual version of Mordecai Hönig’s poem “קסם על ים כנרת” (Magic on the Sea of Galilee). This version was recorded in April the same year and released as A SINGLE. In 1994 the band released their debut album “עד העונג הבא” (Til the Next Pleasure). Perlmuter wrote and composed all of the songs apart from “ציפור” (Bird) written by Cohen and “מתח מיני” (Sexual Tension) written by Netz. The album was produced and arranged by קורין אלאל. The album was a major critical success and achieved a Golden Status. After the album’s release the band played concerts and clubs, Some on Friday the 13th under the name “The Witches Night” with guest musicians, קורין אלאל, אלונה דניאל and דנה ברגר. In 1995 the band released their second album “זמנים מוזרים” (Strange Times), with production and arrangements by the band, Except for “מרדף לא ידוע” (Unknown Chase) written by Cohen. The album gained less success. The band continued performing frequently, among others a show in Caesarea Opening for Björk. In April 1996 the band released, “המכשפות מתכסות” (The Witches Undercover), an EP consisting of cover songs spanning from the band’s formation until their latter days. Many guest musicians appeared on the EP: קורין אלאל, אלונה דניאל and Nick Cave. יואב קוטנר appeared on a hidden track on the album. The band wanted to add their cover for “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics to the EP but its release was prohibited by Annie Lennox of Eurythmics. As a sign of protest, Perlmuter distributed the song on an underground cassette. After the EP’s release the band’s activity decreased with no announcement of disbandment. The band’s last concert took place in September 1996. A comeback concert was planned for the second of October at the “Logos” Club, but a day before the concert, Inbal Perlmuter deviated with her car, crashed into a concrete wall at Rishon LeZion Interchange and was instantly killed. In 1999 a double CD compilation album was released. The first disc consisting of their best hits (Plus 2 videos) and the second consisting of live recordings(Plus 1 video). Read more on Last.fm.
