Hyoutan are a three-piece guitar group from Tokyo, Japan. Established in the early 90s by Eastern Youth member Ninomiya Tomokazu, after progressing through a number of different names and line-ups Hyoutan finally released their first single '宇宙の傍らで' and mini album in late 2005. They play regularly in and around Tokyo and have a progressive, new wave sound. Hyoutan (ひょうたん) in Japanese translates as either 'ice and charcoal (contradiction)' or 'gourd'. Read more on Last.fm.
