RURUTIA (ルルティア) is a Japanese singer-songwriter, composer, and producer whose work blends dream pop, electronica, and experimental pop. Known for her ethereal vocals, poetic lyricism, and deliberate anonymity, she has remained one of Japan’s most mysterious and distinctive musical voices since her debut. RURUTIA released her first single “Itoshigo yo” in 2001 through Toshiba-EMI, followed by the albums Water Forest (2003) and Promised Land (2004). Seeking creative freedom, she left the label in 2005 and began releasing music through the independent Phoerix Records. Subsequent works such as Chorion (2006), Hyousa (2008), Seirios (2010), and Node from R (2020) expanded her sound into cinematic, ambient, and neo-classical territory. Her post-2020 digital releases — including the singles “We Say Good Night” (2020), “7th Heaven” (2021), and “Loop in the Sky” (2022) — continued her trademark fusion of whispered vocals, intricate arrangement, and lyrical mysticism. The name “RURUTIA”, derived from the Tahitian word Rorotea (“blissful rain”), captures the serene yet otherworldly atmosphere that defines her music. On May 12 2024, RURUTIA announced her intention to retire from music by the end of that year and close her social media accounts, citing a shift toward therapeutic work. She later clarified that she would continue limited creative activity, writing on Instagram: “I wasn’t always a therapist. Before holding space for people, I was on stage.” In mid-2025 she revealed a new best-of collection, Rakuei – The Song for 2005-2025, set for release on August 26 2025, reaffirming her enduring connection to music even amidst personal transformation.
