Alan Dawa Dolma (Tibetan: ཨ་ལན་ཟླ་བ་སྒྲོལ་མ་, ZYPY: Alan Dawazhouma; Simplified Chinese: 阿兰·达瓦卓玛 | Traditional Chinese: 阿蘭·達瓦卓瑪; pinyin: Ālán Dáwǎzhuómǎ; born on 25 July 1987), is a Chinese Tibetan singer and Erhu player from Sichuan province who debuted in 2005 with the album 声声醉如兰 (Shengsheng Zui Rulan). She made her Japanese language debut in 2007 under avex in Japan with the single明日への讃歌 (Ashita e no Sanka). Alan grew up in the Meiren valley in the Rongxar county of the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in China. Her father is a civil servent, while her mother was a former singer. She is ethnically Tibetan, and learnt singing from a young age, and started to learn how to play the erhu at age eight. At nine years old, Alan was selected for the leading role in the TV drama Tai Yang Nu Shen, and first persued a career as an actress. After graduating from her musically oriented high school, she enroled in one of the most prestigious music school in China, the China National Chinese Opera and Dance Drama Company (解放軍芸術学院); where Lei Ying and Zhong Bao of 12 Girls Band were also being taught. Later in 2005, Alan released a cover album, 声声醉如兰 (Shengsheng Zui Rulan), under a Chinese indie label. Currently, the album has sold over 50,000 copies. In October 2006 at the Shanghai International Art Festival, Alan won second place (tied with Phillipino singer Jimmy Layo Marquez at the 9th Asia New Singer Competition. In July 2007 she graduated the China National Chinese Opera and Dance Drama Company with excellent grades. Alan was scouted when Avex China held auditions in Beijing. In early 2006, she auditioned for the label Avex and was subsequently signed. In late 2007, Alan moved to Tokyo and made her debut with 明日への讃歌 (Ashita e no Sanka). She recorded the theme song to the film Red Cliff (2008), which brought wide exposure and is featured on her debut Japanese studio album, Voice of Earth (2009). In 2009, her ninth single 久遠の河 (Kuon no Kawa) debuted at number three on the Oricon weekly charts, the highest placement by a singer from China. Her second Japanese studio album, My Life, came that same year. Following a slew of singles in 2010, including the Inuyasha: The Final Act ending theme Diamond, Alan released the greatest hits album Japan Premium Best and began concentrating on promotional activities in China, where she has solely been active since. Her third Chinese album, Love Song, was released in 2012. In 2014, Alan released her fourth chinese album 蓦兰 (Mo Lan) and in 2017, 十念 (Shi Nian). On November 21, 2022, she released 阿兰出道十五周年精选集 (The Best Of alan 2007-2022), a compilation featuring remastered versions of her greatest hit singles. Read more on Last.fm.
