SCAPEGOAT was a Japanese visual kei band also part of the koteosa kei and menhera kei subgenres. The band was active from 2009 to 2021 and gained a following through their dark, energetic sound, which combined heavy metal with experimental and melancholic elements. The band’s music often focused on themes of guilt and emotional struggle, reflected in both their lyrics and conceptual approach. SCAPEGOAT was formed on March 20, 2009, by members of the former band Sister. The original lineup featured vocalist Haru (春), guitarists Sayura (さゅら) and Katsuki (克己), bassist LAYHA, and drummer Tatsuki (たつき). The band debuted the same day with a free CD sampler titled Special Sampler CD, followed by a live performance on April 30, 2009, at their first oneman live event, REBIRTH DAY -Tensei no Hi-, where they also released their first single, Beautiful feminism. Their early sound was rooted in heavy, aggressive metal, exemplified by releases such as FUTURE END in September 2009 and Kousai ENDROLL (光彩エンドロール) in October 2009. In 2012, SCAPEGOAT signed with the label Speed-disk. However, later that year, the band saw a significant change when guitarist Katsuki departed on December 30, 2012. In 2018, after drummer Tatsuki left the band on November 4, SCAPEGOAT temporarily paused activities. The band resumed the following year with a new drummer, U, previously from the band MORRIGAN, and continued to release music. Despite their creative efforts, SCAPEGOAT announced their disbandment in 2021. Their final performance took place on December 12, 2021, at Takadanobaba AREA, marking the end of a 12-year career.
