Acetone was a southern California based indie-rock/slowcore group with surf and country influences. The band consisted of Richie Lee (bass guitar and most lead vocals), Steve Hadley (drums) and Mark Lightcap (guitar and vocals). Acetone released four studio albums, as well as an album of covers, between 1993 and 2000. Their rise towards popularity was cut short by the suicide of Richie Lee in 2001. Hadley and Lightcap have since performed as Acetone with a rotating cast of guest musicians, reuniting in 2018. The band’s discography was reissued by New West Records in 2023, and Acetone have since been critically re-evaluated and recognized as an important act in the 1990’s alt-rock canon.
