Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) is a Japanese band that combines elements of heavy metal and Japanese idol music. The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), Moa Kikuchi (Moametal), and Momoko Okazaki (Momometal). It is produced by Kobametal, associated with the Amuse talent agency. During live performances, the band's vocals are supported by a group of session musicians known as the Kami Band. Formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin, the original lineup featured Nakamoto, Kikuchi, and Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal). Babymetal became an independent act in 2013 after Nakamoto graduated from Sakura Gakuin. The group was founded on the concept of blending heavy metal with idol music. Babymetal has released five studio albums: Babymetal in February 2014, Metal Resistance in April 2016, Metal Galaxy in October 2019, and The Other One in March 2023, Metal Forth in August 2025. The group has conducted multiple tours, many of which have taken place outside Asia. In October 2018, it was announced that Yui Mizuno would leave the group due to health reasons, following an extended absence from performances since December 2017. After her departure, the band incorporated backup dancers in live shows. One of these dancers, Momoko Okazaki, a former Sakura Gakuin member, officially joined Babymetal in April 2023 under the stage name Momometal.
