Bamodi are a three-piece punk band from Perth. Often described as playing incarnations of post-punk, no-wave, Japanoise and hardcore, Bamodi are more content to describe their music simply as happy music made by happy people. Since forming in 2005 they’ve supported the likes of Wire, Erase Errata, Clockcleaner, Japanther, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and My Disco; toured a couple of times and released a self-titled CD and a split CD with Japanese noise punksters Bariken. In 2012, they return from another hiatus with a pair of new band members and releases: their second LP Smell Heaven (Tenzenmen) and a split 7” EP (Heartless Robot) with Japanese two-piece MEKARE-KARE, with whom they tour Australia in October. With new members Wil Hooper (Water Temple) and Matt Bairstow (smRts), Bamodi are fresher, faster and better looking than ever. Original member Kenta McGrath – whose voice has been described by dubious reviewers in ways that are cute (“an angry cat”), creative (“like a Koran-reading day at the special school”) and just plain rude (“like a menopausal Asian woman”) – rounds out the numbers.
