Uwe (Huey) Belz (born 27 may 1964) is a German singer-songwriter. Belz plays an acoustic mix of blues, folk and rock music and is known for his guitar-playing skills. At the age of 30 he decided to swap his mainstream musical life for the wilderness of the USA. He chose Tom Brown Jr. as a teacher to learn the special ways of tracking, nature and wilderness survival. After experiencing the US wilderness for one year (1997 / 1998), he returned to Germany and set up one of the first German wilderness schools. It took another couple of years before he focused on professional music again. His “new” beginnings of 2005 were followed by his fascination for Weissenborn (lap steel guitar) and Dobro (resonance guitar). Both instruments allowing open tuning and thus the typical improved intonation and vibrant slide sound of blues and folk music. Inspired by B.B.King, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, Belz perfected his musical techniques and wrote lyrics dwelling upon the headaches and ambitions of daily life. His first CD “Iron & Gold” was released in 2010 succeeded by “Zeit zu Leben” in 2012, with few German lyrics. Read more on Last.fm.
