Nuclear Blast Showdown Fall 2008
Two bands go by the name Benediction: 1. Benediction is a death metal band from Birmingham, UK, formed in February 1989. The original lineup featured Paul Adams (bass), Peter Rew (guitar), Darren Brookes (guitar), and Mark Barney Greenway (vocals). Their 1989 demo The Dreams You Dread attracted the attention of Nuclear Blast Records, leading to a record deal. The debut album Subconscious Terror was released in 1990, after which Barney left to join Napalm Death. He was replaced by vocalist Dave Ingram. In 1991, the band embarked on a major tour alongside Bolt Thrower and Nocturnus. 2. Benediction is also a gothic rock band from the UK. The group was originally formed in 1987 by Marc Helliwell (keys/sequences/samples) and Rob Ascough (guitars) after they left their previous band, The Abyss, and relocated closer to London. Initially fronted by Mike Count Klimsak from The Abyss, he was soon replaced in 1988 by Sharon Lane, formerly of Four Came Home. Benediction played numerous shows across the UK and supported acts such as Claytown Troupe, Altered States, Shark Taboo, Primal Scream, and Felt. Read more on Last.fm.
