Ost-Rock
Berluc was founded in the mid-1960s as a jazz band. The band's name is derived from the first letters of the founding members' cities of origin, Berlin and Luckenwalde. They first gained attention throughout the GDR in 1978 with the song Hallo Erde, hier ist Alpha, which was inspired by the band members' penchant for science fiction literature. The composition was written by Alexander Stehr, the lyrics by Sabine Heese. The song reached number one in the Radio-DDR-Tip-Parade seven times, in the Tip-Disko of Stimme der DDR the song reached number one four times and in the GDR annual charts 1978 the song reached number 7.In 1979, Reise zu den Sternen was released on the GDR label Amiga, their debut album, which was described as very hard rock. This was followed in 1981 by an album on the West German label Teldec, which contained a compilation of songs from the debut album as well as other radio recordings, some of which were later included on the 1982 Amiga LP Hunderttausend Urgewalten. Berluc celebrated their next success in 1983 with the song No Bomb, which was described as one of the GDR's first metal hits[3] and took first place in the 1983 GDR annual hit parade. In April 1984, the group toured the Soviet Union and accompanied the Czechoslovakian car rodeo through the country in the summer. The song Die Erde lebt reached number 4 in the annual hit parade in the same year.Their most successful album to date was released in 1985 with the title Rocker von der Küste, a reference to their adopted home of Rostock. Berluc's last hits in the GDR hit parade were in 1988 with Ganz nah (5th place) and Nach Hause (6th place). After reunification, the group disbanded for the time being and made a comeback in 1993. They gave concerts again, mainly in the new federal states. Drummer Dietmar Ränker, who still lives in Rostock, has been the band's leader since its formation. The other band members live in Halle and Berlin. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
