Not many can encapsulate such an ethereal dynamic sound like Binta can. The 23-year-old Gambian artist from London, is looking to blend music from her childhood with modern music soundscapes to create something nostalgic yet entirely new with inspirations ranging from Erykah Badu, Usher, SZA ,Greentea Peng, and Jhene Aiko. Her international upbringing allowed for a diversity of sound and style. Binta has been tuned to performing since birth, stating, “I was always singing, ever since I was even able to hum.” As a child in England, she extended that natural talent into talent shows, performing and creating choreographed dances. In Her first EP “Limbo” , Binta wears her influences on her sleeve, creating a neo-soul atmosphere reminiscent of the legendary early 2000s collective Soulquarians. Binta expresses love and loss in a form way ahead of her age at the time.A beautiful introspective moment that gives the EP a tonal shifts. With Limbo under her belt, eyes were on her with what she will do next; luckily, she kept the momentum going with a plethora of singles throughout 2021 -2022. With an influx of music coming out, Binta was eventually noticed by Mind of a Genius, an L.A.-based independent record label. The future looks bright for Binta; with experimental sounds in the works.
