Definition: Slang. a female singer, especially with a dance band. The band released its self-titled debut in June 2012 on the dAA (Redux) label. It is on iTunes and Amazon. Formed in 2010 by Jackie Berkley (vocals) and Amy Mantis (guitar) along with Kyle Hovland on the bass, Canary has grown from a brainchild to a full fledged rock n roll power house unit and can be found playing regularly throughout Boston and New England. After Cole Bingham (original drummer) left the band in May of 2011, Canary reworked its lineup by adding Dean Davis at drums and Alex Hartley on keyboards and organ. Canary's first official EP is set to be released in March of 2012. Formed in ]Toccoa, Georgia, Canary released a full length album, A Sound of Summer Running, a split EP called Scissors and Blue volume 4, and garnered national, regional, and local accolades via press and radio play. During that time the members of Canary, Luxury, Viva Voce, and Menomena formed a national collective of independent musicians called The Cut and Paste Collective which released 15+ albums under its umbrella including a compilation CD. Canary also appeared on the Audiolab Records tribute to The Prayer Chain called Salutations, covering the song Antarctica in the fall of 2002.
