COOLANOVA - the coolest sound under the supernova ... Coolanova. Since 2011 Coolanova surprises with Jazzy Chillout Pop. Their distinctive style combines elements of pop, jazz, electronics and world music, in a tongue in cheek manner, when they play rock songs in ball gown attire. The members of Coolanova are Josanne Thomas, Brigitte Volkert and Bernhard Heck. As a bass player, Bernhard brings a lot of live experience in a variety of styles, but his real passion is for his own songs. Inspired by Sade, Beady Belle and Morcheeba, he turned to lounge soundscapes in 2005. In keyboardist Brigitte in 2011 he found the perfect musical ally for his way of working. Her background of classical, rock and world music with a dash of jazz completes Bernhard's vision - and they founded Coolanova. If you listen carefully, you will find inspiration from Jazzanova, Bonobo, Thievery Corporation and Lana del Rey in their complex sound. For two years they forged the sound of the first CD ‘Coolanova’ in various places around the world, together with singer Michelle D. Walker, who contributed impressive vocal arrangements. In '4square' - Brigitte's four-square-meter home studio - they produced the debut album, which was released in 2014. It seamlessly combines interpretations of well-known songs such as 'Overload' or 'Your Love is King' with their own compositions. In the studio, they worked with drummer Manni von Bohr and percussionist Pitti Hecht, among others. Singer Josanne brought new elements to the sound with her Caribbean fire when Michelle retired to a more family life. With her warm charisma, Josanne shapes the appearance of Coolanova. The trio's second album revolves around life, the universe and the rest. 'Perspectives' was released in 2017 with music to listen to and personal texts full of depth. Original songs fill half of the album, while the other half convinces with new interpretations of songs by Kurt Cobain, Chris Isaak and Prince. The next production from autumn 2020 will be an explosion of musical colors. It will be exciting!! Read more on Last.fm.
