(from their site www.cosmonautas.com) Mission Summary The show is based on the music from the album La Ceremonia del Té but has evolved into a broad theatre event, using poems, characters, costume and music to interconnect and weave the play into a single unit. Originating in Barcelona, the show draws on the many linguistic backgrounds (Catalan, Russian, Ukrainian, English, Spanish) of the players, emphasizing the cosmic and cosmopolitan view of the Cosmonauts. Yuri and his Orchestra of Cosmonauts combine in their show three major musical aspects: * A touch of early 20th century Impressionist music (but driven at the speed of light). * Seeking surrealism in the roots of Russian and Ukrainian Folklore. * Traditional, acoustic sounds and instruments fused with contemporary technique and technology. The show blends music, poetry and theatre with a performance of apparently absurd episodes that act as insinuations to the mind. The only objective for this Space exploration is to elevate the public's imagination into a further state, beyond intellect and words. History They say that the remains of the MIR lie in an unknown location, somewhere under the ocean.... Some of those in charge of the MIR drank to its achievements as it plunged into the ocean, in a pre-posthumous homage. Their tears were scented with vodka. Meanwhile YURI, also known as the Mission Commander, was looking unsuccessfully for the cashier's window to pay the MIR's electricity bill, convinced that that might have been the reason for the Station's electrical blackout. A certain flavor of impotence, with an aftertaste of Kafka, left Commander YURI lost in intergalactic space, where fantasy and reality became one. At the helm of his (recycled) spaceship we can find him, a nomad of the universe, surrounded by his loyal and ultra-talented Cosmonauts, on a stage or falling into black holes, proclaiming his principle: The beginning of a new era. Résumé Yuri couldn't stop the MIR's electrical power supply cut. The Cosmonauts arrived from all over the Earth (Spain, diverse Russias and Americas, Australia, Scotland......) and settled into a small mothership in Barcelona, after hearing some speculation and hearsay about the city's cosmopolitan nature. Trapped and seduced, their recent union has already lead to startup missions in several different orbits, including: * Barcelona: La Boite/ Privat * Madrid: Festival Hilarante(Guadarrama) 2001, sharing hilarity and stage with, amongst others, Leo Basi or Jango Edwards. * Germany: Spanichen Tage Music festival in Leipzig August 2001. Their message and missions are currently being incubated for new diverse and distant extra-orbital trajectories. Crew Cosmonaut YURI - Mission Commander.
