Growing up programming games for the Commodore 64 operating systems sparked Stephen Machnowski's interest in building his own electronic sound experiences, specifically synthesizers. He uses home-built synths and drum machines for his E.M.S. (Electro Music Specialist) project . Influenced by electronic beats he heard in new wave and the electro and rap breakdancers favored, Machnowski plays a robotic style of neo-electro that caught the attention of the Satamile label. After a series of singles, E.M.S. released a self-titled debut on the label in 2004.
