1) Epi is a chip musician from Poland who has made music using an 8-bit Atari computer since at least 2002. 2) Epi (stage name of Dandarvaanchig Enkhjargal) is a Mongolian overtone singer and morin khoor (horse fiddle) player. He was born 1968 in Ulaanbaatar, and grew up in a little village near the russian border after his father moved to the steppe to raise horses. He studied at the Conservatorium of Ulaanbaatar from 1990 to 1992. He now lives in Germany and performs solo, as well as with various ensembles. 3) EPI (Everywhere People Imagine) is an experimental rock band based in Upper Arlington, Ohio consisting of: Bennett Quarles (Keyboard and vocals), Bryan Murphy (Drums), Jim Henson (Bass), CJ Woeckener (Guitar and vocals), and Dan Disante (Guitar). In their earlier years before their studio EP, Phil Vlahos was in mixture as a guitarist, but left due to issues reguarding their bassist, Jim Henson. The band stumbled across an excellent young musician in Bennett Quarles while they were searching to fill the void Phil had left. Bennett gave EPI a much needed keyboardist, as the band was already very reliant on guitars. He was also a very gifted guitarist and vocalist, as heard in their cover of Pink Floyd's Have a Cigar, during the 2005 Upper Arlington Talent Show. This addition gave EPI the ability to become an excellent experimental rock band. Their 6 track, self-titled EP (2004) includes: Bryan's Naked (2:41), Sunny Day (6:00), Saddiya Sy Babbatt (3:58), This Morning (4:32), Strabbed Threw (5:22), and Illussion (4:04). Their lone EP itself is a masterpiece. One only wonders what else the band could do if they had followed up on it. Bryan's Naked is a short, hard rocker with some elements of thrash and heavy rifts, however, Bennett's keybord adds an additional element, especially during the interlude and finale, that adds a bit of indie rock/electronica to the song. Sunny Day is a lighter track, possibly the lightest on the release. With lengthy instrumentals, and inspirational lyrics, Sunny Day is an excellent second track. Saddiya Sy Babbatt is a mindblowing, boarderline metal track with many tastes of acid rock, heavy distortion, and deep yet contradicting lyrics reguarding being being frustrated with a lover during the heaviest moments, then switching back to lighter rifts during lyrics reguarding wanting to be the man to wipe away your tears and take away your fears. True standouts include Disante's heavy rifts and Murphy's dynamic drumming which absolutely steal the song at 3:18. This Morning is similar to Sunny Day in reguards to overall feel, however much more repetitive, and lacks the progression previous traks have. A standout is the third minute with CJ's impressive vocals saving the song from mediocracy. However, confusing lyrics reguarding driving through the south side of LA, a region CJ hasn't been to, may perplex the listener. Strabbed Threw may also be called Stabbed Through based on the song's actual lyrics, however Strabbed Threw was written down by one of the band members when they were at my hours many moons ago. This track is similar to Saddiya Sy Babbatt with much less metal, and distortion, and a little more Bennett on keyboard and feelings of despair and self questioning over a previous lover who broke CJ's heart, who Stabbed it Through. I feel more emotion on this track than any other. Do not feel less of a man for shedding a tear on this one. Illusions closes the EP out with a lengthy effect to begin the song which tranitions nicely into the actual song. This is also the only track with Bennett's keyboard actually taking center stage. Alas, it is one of the most creative and original sounding tracks to date. Illusions epitomises the EPI sound that we all long for. With spacey, yet fast melodies the song can take you away without putting you to sleep. Excellent closing number which leaves the listener yearning for more. -------------------------------------- The following is taken from EPI's myspace page, written March 18, 2007 reugarding the future of the band. Bands Status/Locations I will be living in nashville tennessee for the next six months working for the gaylord opryland resort. I graduate in may from jwu and then go to osu. CJ is working for verizon wireless and recently got a house with Bennett. Bennett is working for figlio and is taking some japanese classes. Jim is still at Whittenberg playing Rugby, and Dan is in Pre-Med in NY. The five of us still get along great and still enjoy playing music. But it is unclear if still enjoy playing together, seeing as its rather difficult since we havnt been in the same room in over a year and even more difficult since we havnt played together since decemeber of 05. But only time can tell if the band will push on or if other bands will emerge from E.P.I. We`ll Keep you all posted love, bryan Read more on Last.fm.
