Herederos del Silencio

Etxegiña is a three-piece acoustic jazz-influenced folk band from Paris, France, founded by Waldo Losada in 2019. The project was originally conceived as black metal, gathering inspiration in the conflicts and struggles that took place during the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939) and its aftermath with Franco's dictatorship. Born in the Basque Country, Waldo speaks, in Spanish, mostly from the optics and consequences lived in Euskadi with an emphasis in the emotional, historical and political stances from antifascism manifested in this conceptual frame through their first EP, Herederos del Silencio (Vertebrae, True Cult, AbArt) released in September 2021. The line-up by then was made of Waldo (vocals and bass), Titouan le Gal (guitars) and Prosper Duffours (drums). They were active in the RABM circles and spaces, were featured in the Black Metal ist Klassenkrieg!!! compilation put together by the Antifascist Black Metal Network with El Roble que Brota Indemne among others like Black Metal Rainbows and had an overall good reception for it's uniqueness beyond sound and composition with their blend of melodic black metal, and for showcasing events such as the havoc and misery that took place in the concentration camps put together by Franco's regime such as the one in Albatera, themes that are alien to the Spanish black metal scene , more through these perspectives. The band eventually changed direction for personal reasons and abandoned the artistic work from black metal, transforming into an acoustic folk outlet heavily influenced by jazz and the appreciation for odd signatures and improvisation, and after releasing two singles in this new ground, they put together their second EP, El Olivo y el Olvido released on November 25, 2022, a more personal release still holding in memory the Spanish revolutionary song book. Le Gal left the band prior to this point and Nicolas Conesa took his place in the guitar. On March 29, 2024 they released their single Aire Marino. For the origin, meaning and reason to choose the name Etxegiña, Waldo wrote this post back then. Related acts: Acedia Mundi, Touza Senra Read more on Last.fm.
