Feel the Flafen, Pt. 1
FluFlaFen is an improvisational music trio active in the Beijing independent music scene, consisting of Iranian clarinetist Hadi Marvian, Finnish guitarist Jukka Ahonen, and American drummer Yoni Geller. The three musicians, bringing respectively the winding narratives of Persian melody, the sharp spatiality of Nordic soundscapes, and the complex dynamics of American rhythm, met in Beijing and, through repeated collaborations, gradually condensed into a tacit and tightly-knit sonic community. Listening to FluFlaFen's music is like entering a field of musical in-between—they do not simply stitch together heterogeneous cultural elements, but fully immerse themselves in the flow of improvisation, using instrumental music as a language for dialogue, deconstructing and recombining various musical materials like alchemists. Their practice resembles a suspended walk between free jazz, progressive rock, and diasporic geopolitical tonalities; belonging to none of these poles, yet always maintaining a subtle resonance with their respective roots. The band released their debut studio album, 『Sorcery Sauce』, in 2023. Their second album, 『Feel the fluflafen』, will be released at the end of 2025. In 2026, the band's first live recording, 『SOBER!』, was released jointly by Shoumon Productions and ⅓ ⅓ ⅓. Read more on Last.fm.
