Froukje Veenstra, also mononymously known as Froukje, is a Dutch singer. She first rose to prominence in 2020 with her debut single “Groter Dan Ik”, an activist song against climate change. A few months after its release, it went viral and Froukje performed the song at multiple radio stations. She then signed with TopNotch. In 2021, Froukje released “Onbezonnen” as the first single from her debut EP Licht en Donker under TopNotch. It was declared the 3FM Megahit. The debut EP peaked at #2 on the Dutch Album Top 100, boosted by a physical vinyl release. It is currently certified gold for selling more than 20,000 copies. Later that year, she won the 3FM Talent Award. The following year, the debut EP won an Edison Award for Best Alternative. In 2022, Froukje released her sophomore EP Uitzinnig under TopNotch. It received universal acclaim from critics and went on to peak at #5 on the Dutch Album Top 100. The following year, the EP won an Edison Award for Best Alternative. She also collaborated with S10 on “Zonder Gezicht”, which was voted as the best song of the year by multiple critics, including 3Voor12. She then played some of the Netherlands’ biggest festivals, including Lowlands. Her second collaboration with S10 “Nooit Meer Spijt” was included on S10 her third studio album. It became Froukje her first official Top 40-hit, peaking at #32. In 2024, Froukje released her debut solo album Noodzakelijk Verdriet under her independent label Frok ‘n Roll. It included the previous singles “Als Ik God Was” and “Naar Het Licht”. It debuted at Number 1 in both the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium, earning Froukje her first ever Number 1-album in both nations.
