There are at least three different bands/artists called Gardener. 1. Hailing from Yellow Springs, OH, United States, Gardener is a close-knit group of old friends. Their music paints vivid sonic landscapes, blending raw Americana with dreamy, country-tinged indie rock. Inspired by the decay and beauty of their home in Ohio’s Rust Belt, Gardener's songs embody both raw, volatile energy and intimate, meditative moments. Their debut album, A Million Things, came out in 2024. 2. Gardener was an American 'super group', featuring members of Seaweed and Screaming Trees. To be precise, it was the brainchild of Seaweed's Aaron Stauffer (vocals/guitars) and the Screaming Trees' Van Conner (guitars, keyboards, drums). Gardener's origins date back to the late '80s, when Stauffer was a Screaming Trees fan and began calling the band on a regular basis, inviting them to play with him; eventually, he and the band became friends. Meanwhile, Stauffer formed Seaweed with drummer Alan Cage, bassist John Atkins and guitarist Clint Werner. As the Seattle scene gained worldwide prominence, Seaweed and the Trees found themselves touring together frequently. During a 1996 U.K. tour, the two groups finally collaborated, writing two songs that would appear on Gardener's 1999 debut album New Dawning Time. By that time, Stauffer had moved to North California to pursue a more rural, rugged life, penning more songs and incorporating more members — including a tabla player and a flutist — into Gardener. Their debut featured a more expansive, arranged sound than that of either the Screaming Trees or Seaweed, with flourishes of sitar, Mellotron and flute rather than the charged rock sound of Gardener's parent bands. 3. Gardener is the garage rock project of Nova Scotian indie-folk musician Landon Morris. Starting in November of 2021, Gardener provided Morris with an outlet to write louder, more experimental music, while still retaining the fundamentals of his solo material - catchy melodies, intricate songwriting, and simple arrangements, met with walls of fuzz and distortion. With a DIY ethos, the music is recorded on home equipment, often spawned from jam sessions with friends. When playing live, Gardener consists of musicians Nathan Langley (bass), Alasdair Cameron (drums) and Magnus Labillois (lead guitar), while Landon plays rhythm guitar and sings Read more on Last.fm.
