Bra Kast!



The folk music band Geitungen is a trio who plays tunes from their home area Rogaland, Norway. Their sound is simple, sweet and rough, deeply influenced by the style of Rogaland. The repertoire of both traditional and new written tunes variates between waltz, schottische, hopsar (the local polka), halling and springar (old Norwegian couple dances) which are the common tune types in Rogaland. Geitungen has by this day made two recordings: Vaniljesaus (2001) and Bra kast! (2005). The last one was awarded for the best album of the year in open / experimental category by the Norwegian Folk Music Awards 2005. The three young musicians who together form the band are: Håvard Ims (1982) from Sandnes, earlier Norwegian champion on the two row accordion, at the moment a medicine student in Bergen. Olav Christer Rossebø (1981) from Haugesund, plays fiddle, guitar and mandolin, is at the moment a student at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, known from the bands Bergen Mandolinband, Earlybird Stringband, SALT, Fant&Fente and Filibuster. Vidar S. B. Skrede (1980) from Haugesund, plays hardanger fiddle, ordinary fiddle and guitars, is a master student of Nordic folk music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, known from bands like Stimenn, The Great Norwegian Guitar Quartette, AAMOS, Vidvandre, NOMAS and Fant&Fente. These three guys met as teenagers and have been playing together since 1997, which makes Geitungen a band over 10 years old, and one of the oldest Norwegian folk music bands existing of to day. Together they have been playing for dancing, concerts and tours in several countries, and on festivals like Nordsjøfestivalen in Farsund, Skandinavisk folketone, Hilmarfestivalen, Jørn Hilme-stemnet, Riddu Riððu, Den norske folkemusikkveka, Folkekulturfestivalen, Vikedal Roots Music Festival and Shetland Folk Festival. They also have been seen and heard in TV and radio in several countries, and had live concert at Studio 19 on NRK's (The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) radio. Geitungen is in the front line of Norwegian folk musicians inspired by their time of to day and the tradition.
