Folklore and hikers club Gilė, situated in Kaunas Ąžuolas secondary school became the laureate in Golden fowl at the nomination of The best children and youth folklore ensemble (year 2004). At the award ceremony held on 11th of March Gilė took the well-earned golden fowl statue. The same spring Gilė will commemorate their 10th birthday. Gained award became almost the kindest and most honourable gift, which the members and leaders could expect at first real anniversary. In 1999 Lithuanian folk culture centre and World Lithuanian songs feast fond established artistic collectives and their leaders' nominations of the year. It was done for to point out the public attention to amateurs and their artistic compositions, the value of that to our country culture, what is more, because of the wish to highlight, present in public and honour the best folklore ensembles and their leaders. The Golden fowl's statue became the mark of honour, appreciation and rating. It's interesting, what are the roots of Gilė? It all started from hikes in which I was going with a few of my pupils. During the hikes we were spending our evenings at the fire playing the guitar and singing. Exactly the songs at the fire prompted us to try the folklore singing - says Dobilas Juška, the founder and the leader of the club. Shortly, we were searching the deeper meaning of the hikes- adds leader. In the beginning of 1994, when Gilė has been just established, there were about 10 pupils in the club. Now there are more then 70 of them. All members of Gilė are gathering for rehearsals in three different groups. According to their age, pupils form 2 groups each of 30 members: junior (5th and 6th form) and senior (7th-12th form). It's interesting that some members of the club, who had already finished the school and now are studying, started forming the third group - student's group.
