Birth (Cover Tracks) - Single
There are at least two bands known as Graupel: 1. Japanese metalcore band 2. German black metal band 1. Graupel is a metalcore band from Tokyo, Japan. Since their formation in 2015, Graupel has gained recognition in the Japanese metalcore scene. Currently, they are unsigned and independent. The band's current members include Yuu Kakimoto on guitars (2015-present) and Sota Yuyama on vocals (2016-present). They are supported by live musicians including Gabriel on bass, Cake on drums, and TKG on guitars, all joining the band in 2021. Past members of Graupel include Shugo Kurokawa on bass (2015-2016), Julien on drums (2015-2021), Takuma Genda on guitars (2015-?), Yojiro Nojiri on vocals (2015-2016), Kai Hioki on bass (2016-2019), and Tomo on bass (2019-2021). The band's name, Graupel, was chosen by founder Yuu, who hails from Hokkaido, a region known for its beautiful snow. Through the band's music, Yuu aimed to evoke a sense of coldness and a blue texture reminiscent of his hometown. They have toured in Vietnam and performed as guests at Crystal Lake's True North festival, establishing a presence among western metalcore fans. The band incorporates elements of emo, hardcore, and pop punk into their music, while predominantly identifying as a metalcore band. Their lyrics are primarily in English, as the band feels that Japanese is a softer language, while English adds intensity and strength to their fast-paced and rhythm-driven songs. The band draws influence from various heavy music bands, and their music reflects a blend of genres within the metalcore framework. 2. Graupel is a black metal band originating from Aachen, Germany. The band was formed in 1995, initially comprising three members from Nagelfar. However, the current lineup features only vocalist Zingultus, who was part of the original formation, and Gnarl, who joined in 1997 and was also a member of Verdunkeln. Their musical style aligns closely with the earlier works of Nagelfar, infused with an added touch of obscurity and icy blasting. Graupel explores themes of hatred and darkness through their music. They are signed to Ván Records. The band has made a compilation appearance on Curse of Mankind 1 (Valaraukar Records, 2002) with an exclusive cover of Bathory's You Don't Move Me (I Don't Give a Fuck). In addition to their logo, Graupel employs an emblem featuring the words principles, nostalgia, traditions. This emblem serves as a critique of the decay of these values in modern times, while also referencing the second wave of black metal. It appears that Graupel disbanded in 2018. Read more on Last.fm.
