Haila Haila
Haila Maria Mompie Gonzalez was born on the 28th of January 1974 in the easterly part of Cuba, Las Tunas. From an early age on, she was wrapped in the beauty of dance, music and singing. After finishing her dancing degree in 1991, she performed with different bands as well as in numerous musicals and cabarets. For the first time ever, Haila toured in Mexico together with the Guajira Habanera Show in 1992. Two years later, she joined the well known band Bamboleo and landed several hits in Cuba. Bamboleo filled the locals and concert halls. Haila was celebrated as one of the most outstanding newcomers and is seen as one of the best in her generation. As lead singer she generated 2 albums together with Bamboleo and they have been touring through Europe, the USA and South America. In 2001, Haila decided to start her solo career. Her first album was launched together with the famous Cuban singer and producer Isaac Delgado. Once more Haila revealed her exceptional talent, her will and passion for music as well as her diversity which are just some characters which have turned her into a huge star in Cuba. During the following two years, she went on tour and stood on different stages in Japan together with big names such as Cheo Feliciano, Oscar de Leon, Rey Ruiz, Celia Cruz, Jose Alberto El Canario, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Chucho Valdés, Los Munequitos de Matanzas, Mario Rivera, Juan Ceruto, David Caldado or Isaac Delgado. Next to her solo career she's involved in different projects and albums such as La Rumba Soy Yo , which was nominated for the Latin Grammy in 2001. In the past couple of years she published a number of solo albums and took part at several festivals. Haila was voted Diva of the Cuban Son in 2004 in Montreal at the Festival Festivalisimo – the second largest Canadian Festival. Heila is now singing together with Eddy K in the top hit Entrale, which has conquered the Cuban charts.
