Hoelderlin (Hölderlin) was a German progressive rock band that was formed in 1970 by brothers Joachim and Christian von Grumbkow with Nanny de Ruig, with whom Christian was married. The trio was influenced by rock, jazz, and folk music. Named after the romantic poet, Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843), the band from Wuppertal, Germany, operated between 1970 and 1981, producing, by their own account, rock music, songs, improvisations on cello, violin, flute, electric and acoustic guitars, electric piano, organ, bass and drums, complex compositions and suspended arrangements, music that forces you to listen, music that doesn't shy away from twelve-tone cadenzas, that includes traditional elements such as folk or classical music, that touches on electronics or incorporates jazz pleasings. The group reunited in 2005 with only Hans Bäär and Michael Bruchmann from the former members. However, Christoph and Nanny made special guest appearances for a few of their subsequent performances. Upon the release of their eighth album in 2009, the group then split up again. Read more on Last.fm.
