Fun-kee Ara-Bee, the first CD of the Internationals, sounded as the best of the sixties ska, as exciting, cheerfull and skilled. And with an indefinable exotic accent, inspired by all kinds of world- and roots music. The 9 Internationals were familiar faces in the Belgian musicscene. They played and still play in a wide variety of bands and orchestra's as there are : The Seatsniffers, Mambo Chillum, Wizards of Ooze, Skyblasters, El Tattoo del Tigre, Les Messieurs, Belgian Afrobeat Association,.. Internationals though, was and remains their common love ! They soon gained a widespread live-reputation thanks to to their energy and sheer endless enthousiasm. The release of their first mini-album helped them confirm that status ! Fun-kee Ara-bee was procuced and mixed by the weirdo's of the Wizards of Ooze. Recorded in just two days, in a real organic atmosphere, it captured the soul of the legandary Studio One recordings. The Internationals have it all : upright bass, heavy drums, exotic percussion, skanking guitar and of course four horns - 2 tenorsaxes, trumpet and trombone. It's the classical ska line-up, but the Internationals bring it with a lot of brio ! And don't let all the musical talent fool you : They also had a jolly good time in the studio, hence a lot of surprising gimmicks and sounds... ( Karel Michiels, P-Magazine, Reggae.be ) Summer of 2002 Internationals made their big entrance on the Belgian festivals. In June at Mano Mundo, the first festival of the season, later followed Couleur Café, Open Tropen, Marktrock and dozens of other festivals. The same year the band began recording their first full album, at studio Lachapelle, in Waimes. The cd The People Love It sounds tighter, more diverse, and the press and people loved it ! Summer of 2003 they played Belgium's biggest reggae festival : Reggae Geel, wich they left with an appetite for more.. The official release of ' The People Love It ' at the AB Club in Brussels was broadcasted live on Studio Brussels ( Belgium's leading alternative radio). As the cherry on top, in january, they received a Zamu nomination - category 'Roots' Internationals became a familiar face in the Belgian Music, especially on summer festivals : 2004 they did Dour Festival, Gentse Feesten, Antilliaanse Feesten, Pukkelpop,... Autumn 2004 they started a most unusual project : They were the first 'white' band ever to go and play the townships of South africa : Soweto, Alexandra, Tembisa and Kagiso around Johannesburg, and Mbekweni, Langa and Spier Amphiteatre around Cape Town. The band stays evolving and experimenting ! February 2005 they played two try-outs backing The Extraordinaires ; a close harmony/doo-wop trio from London. Read more on Last.fm.
