Jonathan Fortson discovered his passion for music at an early age. Music was an escape from his realities of life which included gangs, drugs and violence. His love of music is the reason why he founded the label Grimey Records. Born and raised in the neighborhood of Pinelawn in St. Louis,M.O., Jonathan grew up singing in church. He would travel with his Father and Uncles as they toured with their gospel group, The True Heart Counselors. Jonathan began entering local talent shows at an early age around the city and was astonished at how his music seemed to touch the lives of others. Jonathan named his label Grimey Records because he is a product of the streets. He has seen it all and his life experiences are reflected in his lyrics. His music is based on his struggles and life experiences. The good, bad and ugly. The name J. Dealin is Jonathan’s rap moniker. The name stuck at an early age because of an old Cardinals jersey given to him by his brother. The name Dealin was stitched on the back so every time he wore the jersey, that is the name he was called. It’s ironic that he was also dealing drugs heavily at the time. The name J. Dealin stuck and the rest is history! Jonathan believes that it’s all about the music. It gives him a sense of freedom and the ability to tell his story to the masses. Music is his inspiration and he plans to use his talents to help others in the community. Performing at Jack The Rapper Working with the legendary group Run D.M.C. Performing at the S.E.
