Empires (Sander Kleinenberg Remixes)
Lamya Al-Mugheiry (30 October 1973 – 8 January 2009) was a Kenyan-born British singer-songwriter and record producer. Her versatile style, while not easily pigeonholed, has been described variously as pop, electronic, or dance. However, the careful listener will note Middle Eastern instrumentation and trip-hop influences on her music as well. She came to prominence in 1993 when she toured with Duran Duran on their Wedding Album tour. Her standout performance was the re-worked live version of their song Come Undone, as performed on tour and on the band's MTV Unplugged appearance. Prior to that, in 1991, she had performed lead vocals on two tracks for Soul II Soul -- Love Come Through and In the Heat of the Night. She released one album, the remarkable Learning From Falling. A remix of the song Empires from that album hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 2002. Before her untimely passing, she had been recording a second album, which would have been titled Hiding in Plain Sight. Read more on Last.fm.
