Gileno Osório Wanderley de Azevedo (Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, 1949), more commonly knows as Leno, is a brazilian singer, songwriter and guitarist. He launched his career during the Jovem Guarda (portuguese for young guard). After forming several bands, was discovered by producers of the former CBS (present day Sony BMG) and formed with Lílian Knapp the double act Leno e Lilian, with whom he released the hit singles Pobre Menina and Devolva-me. Mis­under­standings led the couple to split during the Jovem Guarda period. However, before, Leno already had released two solo albums in 1968 and 1969. Besides that, he used to produce songs to various contemporary artists, mainly Renato e Seus Blue Caps. In 1971, he releases the first album recorded in 8 tracks in Brazil, Vida E Obra De Johnny McCartney, with the production of the then unknown songwriter Raul Seixas and the singer/songwriter Luís Vagner, in addition to the contribution from the lyricist Arnaldo Brandão. In 1972, he got back together with Lílian, but without the formerly known magnificence. In 1976, he releases Meu Nome É Gileno, with some authorial work (such as the rerecording of Grilo City, from the 1971 album) and some covers, such as Luar Do Sertão (from the poet Catulo Da Paixão Cearense) and Me Deixe Mudo, from the experimental composer Walter Franco. In the 80s, he remained active, releasing some albums. In the 90s, he took part in a set of tributes to the Jovem Guarda, by the side of other icons of the movement such as Jerry Adriani, Wanderléa and his ex-partner Lílian, with whom he's still on familiar terms.
