Cru - Single
Liniker de Barros Ferreira Campos is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and actress. Former leader of soul and Black music band Liniker e os Caramelows, her music is an influence on young Brazilians facing gender discrimination, an audience which 'rarely finds itself represented in Brazilian music'. In 2022, Liniker became the first transgender woman to win a Latin Grammy, winning Best Portuguese Language Popular Music Album for Indigo Borboleta Anil and Best Portuguese Language Song for Baby 95. In 2023, she was appointed to the 51st chair of the Brazilian Academy of Culture, making her the first transgender artist to hold that position. Liniker was born into a musical family and named after English footballer Gary Lineker. She grew up listening to samba, samba-rock, and soul but was shy about singing professionally due to being surrounded by musicians. She started singing after pursuing theater as a teenager. Raised by her mother with her younger brother, Vitor, her father was not present in her upbringing. In 2015, Liniker formed the band Liniker e os Caramelows, releasing the EP Cru and gaining quick viral success with the single Zero. Their debut album Remonta followed in 2016, crowdfunded through Catarse and gaining international attention. In 2019, they released their second album Goela Abaixo. In early 2020, Liniker and the band's bassist, Barone, announced the band's separation to pursue solo projects. Liniker released her first solo album, Indigo Borboleta Anil, in 2021, collaborating with Brazilian artists Milton Nascimento and Tassia Reis. In August 2024, she released her second studio album, CAJU. She performed at the 2023 Sim à Igualdade Racial Award ceremony and later became the first transgender artist to join the Brazilian Academy of Culture, taking over the chair previously held by Elza Soares. Liniker is a celebrated artist and now holds the 51st chair of the Brazilian Academy of Culture, marking a historic moment as the first transgender artist in that position. Read more on Last.fm.
