There are at least artists two using this name: 1) a British indie rock band that split in 2015 2) an American bluegrass group 1) Longview was a British indie rock band formed in 2002. Two members of the band met in Winchester, England, later moving to Manchester where the band gelled into it’s first line-up: lead singer/guitarist Rob McVey, bassist Aidan Banks and drummer Matt Dabbs. Doug Morch joined as lead guitarist in 2003; and in 2005 German keyboard-player Ulrich Schnauss began contributing. Their debut album, Mercury, was released in July 2003 (and re-released in 2005). The blend of powerful rock ballads have made them popular in the indie community. They released several singles (including ‘Further’ on two separate occasions). One of their most interesting and rare singles was a cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Stripped’, only available as a digital download or on limited edition vinyl. The band worked on songs for what could have been their second album, but nothing was finalised and the band split in 2015. the band's chief songwriter, Rob McVey is now a solo artist. 2) Longview was a 1990s bluegrass supergroup that brought together six top traditional bluegrass musicians. The band’s origins trace back to a late night jam at a 1994 bluegrass festival in Denton, North Carolina celebrating Rounder Records’ 25th anniversary. Founding guitarists James King and Dudley Connell, along with mandolinist Don Rigsby, were joined by fiddler Glen Duncan, banjo player Joe Mullins, and bassist Marshall Wilborn. The group took its name from Long View Recording Studio in Massachusetts, where they recorded their debut album in 1995. With live takes, tight vocal harmonies, and classic material from bluegrass pioneers, they set out to emulate the traditional styles of the 1940s & 50s.
