Elektronische Musikaspekte, Vol. 1
When you meet MarcAshken, you realise he’s not just another techno producer. Far from it, Ashken is not just another anything, he’s unique, a man with his own style and outlook and he’s ready to share it with you. Ashken's affair with music began at a very early age. His fathers love of blues and soul indented onto Marc's psyche, artists like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Pink Floyd and Aretha Franklin filling the air of his surroundings, shaping his view of music and the way he would later approach his art. To Ashken music is therapy, a way to express feeling and emotion relating to whatever is going on in his life at the time. Unable to follow trends and fashions in whichever genre he has been grouped into by other people and with a total disregard for musical rules, Ashken continues to make music that represents him as a person. If we can take the time to understand his approach to music, we start to see things differently. Opening your mind to the possibility that music doesn’t have to follow a formula or fit into a tightly defined box in order to move you. Ashken has released on Leftroom under his full name MarcAshken and Esperanza and Archipel under his alias SozAdams and his has done various remixes including for Unkle’s single ‘Burn My Shadow. His full length debut artist album, ‘Have You Seen My Dancing Shoes?’ was released at the start of this year on Leftroom, a mix of house, breakbeat, techno, minimal and downtempo. Marc plays all the instruments, all the vocals are sung by Marc, and the engineering and production is all from him. Take the time to sit back in whatever situation you are in and play the album from start to finish, as you will each individually find a clear message in its layout. Ashken currently DJs across the World this year leading him from his home of London playing at the likes of T Bar, Kubikle to Berlin, Milan, Mexico and Miami. The individuality in his sound, methods and philosophies cause him to be unmistakable, creating his own path and tempting others to understand and follow. Read more on Last.fm.
