Mensch Revisited



There are at least two artists known to perform under this name: A French new-wave/pop project, and a UK trip-hop collective. 1. Mensch, often stylised MENSCH, is a French duo comprising Vale Poher and Carine Di Vita (aka Marilou). They are based in Lyon. Vale Poher has a long history of collaborating with a variety of musicians. She first collaborated with Carine Di Vita in 2008, under the moniker The Vale Poher Group. Carine played bass for the group. 2 years into working together in The Vale Poher Group, the two began a new project, MENSCH, which sound-wise falls somewhere between LCD Soundsystem and Blondie. Combining keyboards, beatboxing, aerial vocals from both members and catchy melodies, they blend elements of krautrock, afrobeat, pop, and new wave music. Mensch is a music collective based in Lancashire, UK, comprised mainly of Dave Falconer (piano, keyboards, vocals, occasional mandolin), Stuart Eastham (double bass, bass, guitar, mandolin, keyboards), Helen Orrett (vocals, guitar, percussion), Lynn Holt (flute, melodica, penny whistle, recorder), Hannah Groarke (violin), John Edgar (drums, percussion, violin), Howard Mills (guitar, keyboards), and Trev Redshaw (decks and inspiration) as well as other non-permanent members who contribute to given releases. Every member is involved in each aspect of the music-making process, resulting in a cohesive sound with multiple influences.
