Mikro (Μίκρο) is a Greek electropop band based in Thessaloniki, Greece. It was formed in 1998 and was named after the Greek word micro (μίκρο) used in metric measuring systems. The members of the group are: Nikos Bitzenis (programming, loops, synths, vocals), Ria Mazini (vocals, synths), Giannis Lefkaditis (guitar), Stelios Emmanuilidis (synths, loops, DJ’s scratch). Nikos Bitzenis and Giannis Lefkaditis began experimenting with electropop music in the late 90s having influences of the 80s era such as Depeche Mode, Erasure, New Order and Duran Duran. Later, Panos Tolios (of the Greek band Wooden Swords), Giorgos Kostopoulos and Ria Mazini enter the group and their EP Σταγόνες (Stagones, Drops) goes out in 1998. After the production of the single Άσπρη σοκολάτα (Aspri Sokolata, White Chocolate), Panos Tolios and Giorgos Kostopoulos leave the group and Stelios Emmanuilidis gets in, forming Mikro as of today. The name Mikro refers to a measurement and was adopted because it symbolizes the technological evolution, something that perfectly represents the group due to their electronic sound. Mikro have given many exquisite concerts and they have shared the stage with many well known artists such as: Hooverphonic, Morrissey, Ladytron, Client, Depeche Mode's Andy Fletcher, Rasmus, Puressence, Kelis, The Raveonettes, Timo Maas, Chicks on speed, Archive, Kwan, Eric Prydz. Radio producers, are happy to play Mikro’s tracks on their shows: from Nick Harcourt, the man who discovered Smashing Pumpkins, to KCRW, an independent radio station in Los Angeles who promotes new music. MIKRO also attract advertising producers and television commercials. You can listen to Mikro's songs and tunes as well as remixes on major TV commercials, such as mobile companies, ads for soft drinks, ice-creams, coffees, chewing gums, clothing and accessories.
