Dead Heart in a Dead World
Nevermore is an American heavy metal band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1992. The band was founded by vocalist Warrel Dane, bassist Jim Sheppard, and guitarist Jeff Loomis following the dissolution of their previous band, Sanctuary. After going through several drummers, Van Williams joined the group in 1994. The band's lineup has changed multiple times over the years. In 1996, Nevermore became a five-piece with the addition of guitarist Pat O'Brien. O'Brien played on their second studio album, The Politics of Ecstasy, before being replaced by Tim Calvert, who performed on the 1999 album Dreaming Neon Black. Calvert left the band in 2000, and Nevermore returned to a four-member configuration for their subsequent albums Dead Heart in a Dead World (2000) and Enemies of Reality (2003). In 2004, Steve Smyth joined as a second guitarist and played on the band's sixth studio album, This Godless Endeavor (2005). He left the band in 2006, after which Nevermore continued as a quartet. The band went on hiatus in 2011 due to internal tensions, which led to the departures of Loomis and Williams. Although Nevermore never formally disbanded, it became largely inactive, especially after the death of Warrel Dane in 2017. In December 2024, Jeff Loomis and Van Williams announced that Nevermore would reform in 2025. As of 2024, Loomis remains the only original member of the band.
