A profound sense of humour, explicit taste, and ridiculous imagination, topped with a pinch of equally ridiculous musical talents. These are the trademarks of Południca!, the Polish neo-folk band. Playing simple songs of women and animals, always lacking conceit, the group draws its inspiration from the musical tradition of Mid-Eastern Europe. Their style is rooted in the pagan Slavic tradition on one hand, but aspires to the contemporary urban society on the other. Południca! uses instruments from various cultures and epochs. They experiment, putting together sounds of instruments both classic and rural, electronic and acoustic, high-pitched and heavy-bassed.
