Lietuvių Tradicinė Muzika: Lithuanian Traditional Music
Ratilio is a group of young people studying various subjects in Vilnius University. They play and sing traditional Lithuanian music from 19th century and older. Songs, dances, tunes and traditions are mostly learned from folklore collections. The group performs in local and international folk festivals, organizes folk concerts and takes part in projects with modern instrumentalists and musicians. These students learn to perform ancient music with instruments such as ragai (horns), daudytė, skudučiai (pan-pipes) and kanklės (a type of nine to five-stringed zither). A special part of the group's repertoire is formed by the archaic Lithuanian folklore genre of multipart harmonious singing the “sutartinė” (included to the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage). The ensemble started in 1968 and till now continues bearing its own traditions and performing, presenting and living the Lithuanian traditional culture. During the ensemble's long history many members have taken part in its activities and some created their own folk groups after leaving. Under the name Ratilio the ensemble released two vinyls in 1980 and 1987, an audio-cassette in 1990 and double-CD albums in 2002 and 2012. Read more on Last.fm.
