Big Electronic Beat
SSQ was a synth-pop outfit formed in the early 80's from already-in-existence band Q (named after the James Bond character). Q consisted of Stacey Swain and Jon St. James. After John Van Tongeren, Rich West, and Karl Moet joined, the group changed their name to SSQ to shift focus to lead singer Stacey Swain. They released one album, Playback, in 1983 on Enigma/EMI America. Singles from the album included Big Electronic Beat (on Enigma Records) and Synthicide. John Van Tongeren left the band, and Skip Hahn was added on keys, vocoder and bass, halfway through the recording of the Playback album. The new lineup carried on with Swain under the name Stacey Q and they acted as musicians on her first three albums, Better Than Heaven, and Hard Machine. They went on to success with dance-pop tracks like Two of Hearts and We Connect. In addition, the recorded but unused title track for Playback was included on Enigma Variations, Volume 1.The group also contributed the tracks Tonight (We'll Make Love 'Til We Die) and Trash's Theme to the soundtrack of the 1985 zombie flick The Return of the Living Dead.
