The Quest for Prester John, Vol. 2
Science NV (www.sciencenv.com) is a California-based prog-rock recording group (San Francisco-Orange County). All 4 members come from both medical-research and physical science backgrounds: thus the name of the band...which is also meant to be an insult not only to the post-modern academic left (see Higher Superstition by Paul Gross and Norman Levitt), but also to all flat earthers. Two of the members (Jim Henriques: lead guitars/keyboards, and Rich Kallet: Drums/Percussion) originally met at the University of Miami School of Music in 1974-75 and worked together as a prog-rock studio-project. In 2001, Rich met David Graves (Keyboards), who is an emerging symphonic and soundscape composer in the San Francisco Bay Area and Larry Jay Davis (Lead and Bass Guitars). David and Larry Jay first met professionally through their research in the late 1990's and began collaborating together on musical projects. David, Larry Jay and Rich formed a prog-rock recording trio (The Aesthetic Condition) in 2002 and in 2005 reformed as Science NV once Jim and Rich re-established their friendship. Listening to their first cd Really Loud Noises(available at Lulu.com), there are clearly influences from King Crimson as well as Mahavishnu Orchestra. But their range of musical styles is quite extensive including jazz, blues, classical and straight hard rock. Their second studio cd is expected out in the Spring of 2009. Read more on Last.fm.
