Lay Back
SLACKSTRING is the perfect moniker for the band; laid back, groovy music providing the soundtrack for summer barbecues and the sport of sunset watching. Comprised of four guys born and raised adjacent to the Pacific Ocean in Manhattan Beach, CA, the sound of SLACKSTRING was crafted as much by the beach lifestyle as it was by local musical influences from classic bands like The Doors and The Beach Boys to neighborhood punk pioneers Pennywise and Descendents. Their sound has been described as Pure Feel-Good Music by L.A. newspaper The Daily Breeze, and a desert island CD by their legions of dedicated fans. SLACKSTRING was born out of the long term musical relationship of Gavin Heaney and Eric Lyman (songwriters/guitarists/vocalists), and Matt Muir (drums) who have been performing together since their high school days. Add Brett Thomas on bass and the SLACKSTRING sound is complete. Truly a self made band, SLACKSTRING has sold over 5,000 copies of their homemade self-titled CD (aka The Van Album) to fans worldwide, from Russia to Australia. SLACKSTRING emerged from backyard parties to headline venues from Hollywood's House of Blues to the Telus World Ski and Snowboarding Festival in Whistler, B.C. SLACKSTRING's dynamic live show continues to win new fans with every listen. Concerts have paired the band with artists including Jack Johnson, Donavon Frankenreiter, Slightly Stoopid, The Wailers, Common Sense and Grammy award winning Hawaiian guitarist John Cruz. SLACKSTRING was recently the musical highlight in award winning mountain bike movie The Collective and its 'sequel' Roam. The film earned a nomination for best soundtrack at the X-Dance film festival in large part to the contribution of the bands three full length songs. Subsequently, SLACKSTRING's music has been in high demand for various extreme sports films from surfing to kiteboarding. SLACKSTRING will be featured on every episode of the PBS series Road Trip Nation in 2006/07. The highly anticipated follow up album Lay Back is nearly complete, and will push the envelope of the band's growth by exhibiting a broad variety of textures and sounds. SLACKSTRING will also be featured on the SURF ROOTS VOL.2 benefit CD for the USA Surf Team. Enjoy the music! Read more on Last.fm.
