Kathrine Elizabeth Shepard (/ka.triː.nə/, born 1991 in San Diego, CA, US), best known by her moniker Sylvaine (/sil.vɛn/), is a Norwegian musician. Originally based in Oslo, Norway; since 2015 based in Paris, France. As she says, “Sylvaine serves as an emotional catharsis, leading me on a quest to explore profound sensations and concerns within me, sometimes dealing with questions where the answers seem vague, empty or absent. This project is a way of processing every aspect of life, allowing me to deal with matters that otherwise would be suppressed…” Kathrine’s mother is Norwegian, but her father (Stephen Shepard) is American.
