Tippu was born as Ekambaresh in Ponmalai, Trichy to Tamil people S. Lakshmi Narayanan and M. K. Meenakshi.[5] He has two siblings, an elder sister Gayathri and a younger brother Shamkumar.[6] Tippu did his schooling at the Kamaraj Matric School, Old Washermenpet and the St. John's Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Alwarthirunagar, Tamilnadu. Tippu is married to playback singer Harini. He has two children, a girl named Sai Smruti and a boy, Sai Prathyankar. He has sung 150 songs for Illayaraja and many songs for DSP and Harris Jayaraj.
