There are at least seven bands/artists by the name of Umbrella. 6) umbrella is a visual kei/Misshitsu kei band that started its activities on June 13th 2010 in Osaka, Japan. Members: Vocal & Guitar: 唯 (Yui; ex. Nazis, ロキ → LOKI, also solo as 唯) Guitar: 柊 (Syu; ex. LAGING) Bass: 春 (Hal/Haru) Drums: 将 (Sho; ex. LIX.) In 2010 they appear on Cure NEW AGE COLLECTIONS Vol.05, followed by the single Powdery Snow. In June 2011, guitarist Hiro and drummer Shu leave the band, forcing a reset just as umbrella are gaining traction. That same summer sees the release of Amayadori, a title that will later become one of the band’s emotional anchors. By the end of 2011 the lineup stabilises. Guitarist Shu joins in October, and umbrella begin to play more consistently in Osaka and Tokyo. Releases like Kasa, Samidare, and their accompanying video works establish a bleak, rain-soaked aesthetic that feels deliberate rather than ornamental. In 2012 umbrella join Starwave Records, releasing Monochrome, Eikyuu Chizu, and collaborative works such as umbrella×Kumasoni. Drummer Sho joins in August, completing a lineup that will carry the band forward. Monochrome in particular sharpens their identity, pairing muted melodies with tension and restraint. The band leave Starwave Records in late 2013 and move fully into an independent phase. What follows is one of umbrella’s most defining stretches. Between 2014 and 2016 they release Knocking…, participate in the DEAD WEST compilations, and unveil full-length works like KINEMATOGRAPH and ALAN. These records show a band more confident in silence, pacing, and emotional weight. Live recordings and the release of Yoru no Curtain further cement their reputation as a group whose atmosphere deepens on stage. From 2017 onward umbrella maintain a steady rhythm of releases and live activity. Singles such as Frontier, Kuda, and Yureru Kasa, Mawaru Haguruma refine their sound rather than reinvent it. They appear regularly on omnibus releases while continuing to cultivate a dedicated audience through one-man shows and carefully staged performances. The late 2010s and early 2020s reflect both reflection and endurance. Libido and the 9th anniversary all-songs oneman in 2019 underline the breadth of their catalogue. In 2020, amid a changing live landscape, umbrella document their performances through live records and revisit Amayadori in a rearranged form. The 2021 live DVD and the single Gumon show a band still invested in emotional precision rather than nostalgia. In 2022 umbrella mark their 10th and 11th anniversaries with a significant oneman titled “Nagai Ame no Hibi, Subete no Kokoro ni Kasa wo Sasu,” a statement that neatly summarises their worldview. Releases that year, including Mure, AMAZING, HALO, orbit, and vector, reveal subtle experimentation while keeping their core intact. Recent years continue this quiet persistence. dilemma and solitude in 2023, the reissue of monochrome, and Kasa wa iranai。 in 2024 suggest a band unafraid to question even their own symbols. In 2025 umbrella celebrate their 15th anniversary with a commemorative oneman, followed by the release of REV. Across fifteen years, umbrella have avoided dramatic reinvention. Instead, they build a body of work defined by patience, melancholy, and control. Their music does not demand attention. It waits, like rain, for those willing to stand still. They are currently under Danger Crue Records. They were initially signed to Starwave Records, but announced their departure from the label in 2013. Their band concept is an umbrella over your heart.
