Pop Street Sound



Wakal (Jorge Govea) Musician, producer, born in Mexico City. At 15, I began my musical career on the Rock scene. Beyond my interest for acoustic and analog instruments, I started in 1998 to experiment field recording and founded in Mexico Cityestudios idEA( improvisados dE Azotea) to study the sound of the streets. In 2000 I was one of the creators of Indie Electronic Music Collective Chilandgo. Its purpose was to reveal the true colors and urban symbols of Mexico City. Later on, I signed on Konfort Records (Mexico) the album, « Wakal POP STREET SOUND ». Its house, drum&bass and down tempo tracks reflected the urban talent, the chaos of the streets and the sound richness of this big city. In 2005 the Maxi « Wakal REMIXES PAISANO » is recorded in Europe by MK2 Music, Discograph, Filtro and Konfort Records labels. This EP contains some of my tracks remixed by Plug and Karras, members of virtual ambient, noise, IDM and click&cut collectives. Since we live in different countries, « Wakal REMIXES PAISANO » materializes our friendship. In 2006, my latest album « Wakal DESVIA SI ON AGAIN » (distributed by MK2 Music in Europe and under Konfort Records label) is a personal representation of the migration phenomenon, of people changing country and life direction. I mixed my souvenirs, experiences and popular melodies with rock, cumbia and electro sounds and deviated them towards dance-floor style. « Wakal DESVIA SI ON AGAIN » CD is now available in Europe, Mexico and on ITunes Store.
