Light Upon the Lake


The song begins with the narrator stuck in his hometown, “drinking on a city train,” but soon enough he is off to new places. While the band doesn’t acknowledge any direct inspiration from Kerouac, it’s easy to imagine Dean Moriarty in the narrator’s place, eager to be going anywhere. Whitney is an American band from Chicago formed in 2015 by Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich, formerly of Smith Westerns, and Ziyad Asrar and Malcolm Brown, formerly of Touching Voids, as well as Will Miller and Josiah Marshall. The band released their debut album, Light Upon the Lake, in June 2016 and have toured internationally. The second album, Forever Turned Around was released on August 30, 2019. Read more on Last.fm.
