Wet Ink
from the underground broken beat producer Domu and Dave Farlam. Twisting the Detroit sound into something fresh Yotoko hit the spot on more than one occasion, head straight for the broken boogie of 'Heaven and Earth' with its slick beats, analog bassline, smooth rhodes and filtered strings for a trip to neo-Detroit with a difference. Also the classic 4/4 of 'Vajra' comes close to Pepe Braddock’s 'Burning' with its looped natural string line that fades in and out under the beat, while a pulsing analog bassline helps the beats travel, synths and melodics arrive for added garnish, a bit of soul on the techno front. 'Lonely Man' is a lowrider funk cut, squelchy and understated bass runs under the rhodes line and breaky drums, while analog strings flow over the top and create some class atmospheric moments when the beats dissapear, deep as you like. Lastly the junglist 'Dam-Age' drops a lush breakbeat number that could have come from the archives of 4 Hero, using old skool beats and a classic string line for the first half of the track Yotoko switch the tempo down to 4/4 deepness and the track takes on another characteristic, technique and depth go together perfectly. Deep and Detroit, with a twist, just the way we like it, ace. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
