“the way things go“ is a song by the Filipino-English singer beabadoobee. The song was released through Dirty Hit on 19 July 2023, as a stand-alone single. It was written by Beabadoobee and produced by Jacob Budgen. This upbeat breakup song reminisces on the subtle issues experienced in the relationship and after the breakup. It refers to her breakup with her former boyfriend of 7 years, Soren Harrison. She has formed her own independent, unique bedroom-acoustic sound pulling heartstrings with every beat. Her sensational melodies are influenced by artists like Alex G, Karen O and Florist.
