There is more than one artist called Bono: 1. Paul David Hewson (born May 10, 1960), nicknamed Bono Vox — stage name Bono — is the lead singer of the Irish rock band U2. Bono has been the lead singer of U2 since 1976. U2 has won 22 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Lauded by fans and critics as a powerful performer and songwriter, Bono is also recognized as a global activist, known for his persuasive speaking and deep knowledge of global issues. He frequently travels to give speeches and lobby politicians on matters such as poverty, disease, and human rights. His activism has been influenced by his upbringing in Ireland (his father was Catholic, his mother Protestant) and by volunteer work in Africa and South America. He married Alison Stewart, his childhood sweetheart, in 1982. Ali Hewson is also a noted activist and once declined an invitation to run for President of Ireland, reportedly saying her husband would not move to a smaller house. The couple lives in Dublin with their four children: Jordan, Memphis Eve, Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q, and John Abraham. 2. Bono is also the name of a harsh noise group from Melbourne, Australia. 3. Bono is a project by Blink from alowhum's remix series in New Zealand. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
